Description

By use of an extension III spell, the caster prolongs the duration of a previously cast 1st, 2nd, 3rd level spell by 100%, or the duration of 4th or 5th level spell by 50%. The spell affects only spells that have durations of 2 rounds or more, and must be cast before the end of the round immediately following the round that the target spell was finished being cast, either by the original caster or another caster. If a complete round or more has elapsed since the spell to be extended was finished being cast, the extension fails and is wasted. When casting extension III, the caster must be aware of the existence of and mentally designate exactly what spell effect he is extending.

For example, on round one of a combat versus some kobolds, Halfdan casts levitate upon himself as a standard action and then levitates upward as a move action. The next round, Thigru, who knows Halfdan has a levitate spell cast upon him because he saw him do it, takes a move action to get within close range of Halfdan and then, as a standard action, casts extension III on Halfdan’s levitate spell.
