Description

The spell protects against both acid and fire damage and these protections share the same pool of hit points of 12 per caster level. While the energy protection remains, the item is also completely waterproof (this protection extends to other liquids as well, such as alcohol and oil). The material component is a drop of clear oil. In order to scribe spells, all of the protections can be temporarily disabled with a command.

This spell can also be put on items other than books, such as backpacks, chests and scroll cases, but not living creatures.

Except as noted above, this spell functions similarly to protection from energy:

“Protection from energy grants temporary immunity to the type of energy you specify when you cast it (acid, cold, electricity, fire, or sonic). When the spell absorbs 12 points per caster level of energy damage (to a maximum of 120 points at 10th level), it is discharged.

Protection from energy overlaps (and does not stack with) resist energy. If an item is warded by protection from energy and resist energy, the protection spell absorbs damage until its power is exhausted.”

Wonderous Items only: Turning the protection off and on resets the amount of magical hit points.
